AYOOO it’s the Bashfuls here to tell you about our first few days!! Roll call: Amelia, Anna, Bailey, Ben, Cooper, Ella, Hadley, Houston, Lauren, Lindsey, Pickle, Peyton, Sims, and Sophie!
Today, we left from Mallard Creek to make our way down to FDR State Park. The past participants lined up at the door of the bus as the new participants boarded.
Grant trying to put our parent's minds at ease before we left.
See you guys back here in 23 days!
The bus ride was pretty long; we ate our first meal, which was “gourmet” ham and cheese or turkey and cheese sandwiches, and many of us fell asleep at least once after that. Throughout our bus ride, we played “speed dating,” where we switched seats and met new people. The bus was cool though, it beats boiling in your own sweat at this campground.
On the van, many people played card games like Uno, and others made bracelets with some of the string provided by the van’s ‘library’ or other participants.
Sims learning how to make his first friendship bracelet!
Smile this big if you're excited about TWB!
We stopped every 2 hours at a rest stop, a gas station, and a Walmart. At the rest stop, the bathrooms were closed, so we had to use the trailer bathrooms, and at the gas station, a group gathered to play hacky-sack.
Grant sandwich!
Counselor Caleb giving the cooks the lay of the land.
Our first of many Walmart trips!
When we arrived at our first campsite, FDR State Park, we split into our Dwarf groups and got to know each other. After that, we set up our sleeping areas. The cabins were too hot, so most of us decided to sleep outside. Anna Robinson misses air conditioning more than her parents… agreed on by many others (sorry mom and dad).
Our Dwarf group ‘Happy’ had to make dinner tonight, which consisted of burgers, chips, watermelon, a few cookies, and some red Kool-Aid that our campers called “Red 40 Water.” Before eating, we staged a proposal and started “let the best proposal win.” The Dwarf group ‘Dopey’ won and got to eat first after the counselors.
After dinner, we gathered in our dwarf groups to create our team chant before the relay races started. The relay races consisted of the wheelbarrow race, balancing a ping pong ball on a spoon, the human chain race, the Harry Potter Quidditch race, the capture your shoes race, and the balancing a cup on your head race. Each group won one race!
After the relay races, we had our first sing-along. For it being our first sing-along, we sounded pretty good, but definitely need some practice.
Audrey Bell told us about the state of Georgia during her interactive presentation. Who knew that we had Georgia to thank for Coca-Cola, Stranger Things, and peaches!
FINALLY, after a long and very, very, very, very, very, very HOT day, we took our showers and headed to bed. Look out, New Orleans, we’re coming for you!
